Why Does Your Cat's Tongue Feel Like SandpaperDeep Look

Cats are obsessed with staying clean. They can spend up to half their waking hours
grooming. Their tongue is covered in tiny spines. Theyre what makes the tongue feel so sandpapery.

These spines, called papillae, are made of
keratin, just like their claws and our fingernails. The papillae even look like miniature cat
claws. They do an impeccable job of detangling their
fur. Researchers at Georgia Tech made a 3D model
of a cats tongue to test how it works.

See how the fur just peels off? Its because the spines are all angled in
the same direction. With a typical hairbrush, youd have to
pick the fur out from between the bristles. So why are cats so preoccupied with grooming? For them, its about more than just vanity. For one thing, its a way to show affection--
to build bonds.

Thats why they appreciate us petting them. And it spreads out oils produced by the cats
skin that gives their fur some water resistance. But when it really comes down to it, for cats,
staying clean is a matter of life and death. Cats are carnivores ambush predators.

They hide and sneak up on their unsuspecting
prey. One whiff of the wrong odor could give the
cat away. But when they pounce, its their bite that
finishes the job. Cats have extra-wide mouths so they can get
their teeth around their preys neck.

It would be like having the corners of your
mouth go all the way back by your ears. But theres a tradeoff that comes with that
big bite. Those wide mouths mean their lips cant
come together to form a good seal. They cant create suction to drink the way
we do.

So, they flick the water with the tip of their
tongue Researchers at MIT made a model using a glass
disc, to show how cats get a drink by just barely touching the waters surface. The water sticks to the disc and to itself. Lift the disc at the right speed and it pulls
the water up into a column. Then, the cat bites it at precisely the right
moment to get as much water as possible.

And all of this happens four times per second! Its a complicated way to take a drink,
but its just one of prices cats pay to be the expert predators they are Hey guys, Its Lauren. You know you love fuzzy critters. So check out our other episodes like this

The Real Reason Why Cats Purr

Cats: the Egyptians worshipped them, the Internet
loves them, and almost no one understands them. Why do they purr? "(Cat purring)" What's all the meowing about? "Meow!" Let's explore the feline brain and get to
the bottom of it. Wild at heart No one's sure when cats first moved into our
homes and our hearts, but it's probably between 5,000 and 10,000 years ago. By comparison, dogs have been domesticated
for around 40,000 years, and over those years we've selectively bred hundreds of types to
fill certain roles, from hunting and herding to nestling into purses.

Cats, on the other paw? Experts say the 40 or so breeds of housecat
are semi-domesticated or self-domesticated at best, meaning they're choosing to tolerate
being tamed. Slightly. In exchange for creature comforts  but
would totally still stalk and kill a sparrow if given the chance. Genetically, the domestic housecat still has
most of its DNA in common with its wild cousins, and unlike many dog breeds, cats could survive
quite well if they were released into the wild.

Cat code Cats have developed a super-top-secret language
that they use only to communicate with humans: meowing. "Meow." "Meow." Yep: that's just for us! Cats that live together don't usually meow
to each other, and studies of feral cat colonies have found that cats in feline-only company
are actually pretty quiet. It's people they won't shut up around  Researchers in 2013 showed that cat owners,
after listening to a recording of a dozen different cats meowing, were able to understand
the context of only one meow: the one coming from their own cat. In other words, your cat learns to make specific
meows in order to get what it wants out of you  it's not some universal cat language.

Op-PAW-sites attract Animal psychologists wanted to see which paw
certain cats favored, so they gave 42 cats a small jar with a bit of tuna in it. The only way they could get it out was to
reach in and, well, fish it out which would reveal their dominant paw. Surprisingly, the results were split almost
perfectly based on the sex of the cat. There were 21 males and 21 females in the
test, and after dozens of trials, 20 of the males were left-pawed, with one ambidextrous
over-achiever, while twenty of the females were right-pawed, with one favoring the left.

The experts say this probably has something
to do with hormone levels, and it's only true when performing particularly challenging feats. "Meow." Two-way street Everybody knows somebody who's allergic to
cats, so they miss out on the joys of living with a plastic pee and poop-filled box in
their house at all times. But it's estimated that about 1 in every 200
cats suffers from a cat version of asthma, which looks and sounds like this: "(difficulty breathing)" The biggest cause? People. The monsters.

That's right: plenty of cats are allergic
to people, with human dandruff cited as a major cause. The asthma can also be triggered by other
irritants that humans bring into their homes, such as cigarette smoke. Some cats can have such a powerful allergic
reaction to humans and their habits they could suffer collapsed lungs or even broken ribs. Asthmatic cats can usually have their conditions
managed, but vets consider it incurable.

Walking heat maps Here's a less-depressing feline fact: Some
cats are heat-sensitive, and can change the color of their fur based on their environment. How cool is that? There are eight different sets of genes in
each cat that governs what color they're going to be. Siamese cats and their cousins have a gene
modifier called a Siamese allele. That modifier blocks color from getting to
the cat's fur, which should, in theory, make them albinos.

But it doesn't, because it's only activated
by heat. Once the temperature gets up to around 100
degrees, the color stops. That's why the cooler parts of a Siamese cat's
body, such as the nose, ears, and paws, are usually dark, while the rest of their fur
stays light. It doesn't just happen once  Siamese cats
can change color any time when the temperature of their environment changes.

So this means their paws actually lighten
if covered for long enough with a bandage, or if you made them wear socks or mittens... "Finally, there's an elegant, comfortable
mitten for cats!" "Meow." "I couldn't hear anything!" Why cats purr While it's true that cats purr when they're
happy, that's not what the purring means  or the only time cats do it. Experts say that the most accurate translation
of a purr is something like "Don't go anywhere, please." They're asking to be cared for, not telling
you how happy your care is making them. But cats also purr when they're injured or
scared, and researchers think that it has something to do with the healing power of
the purr.

Cats purr at a frequency of 26 hertz, the
same frequency that's been found to promote healing in bone and other body tissues. Sounds crazy, right? But it's the same idea behind exercise for
rehabilitation in humans: bones respond to pressure by making themselves stronger. It also might be why healthy cats will often
curl up with an injured cat and purr. They're trying to help regrow its bones.

How cool is that? Nice job, cats. Thanks for watching! Click the List icon to subscribe to our YouTube

People Try Walking Their Cats

- [Voiceover] Here. (Playful music, featuring a trumpet) - Mars and I have been cat human buddies for
about five years now. He's just this, he's
the biggest stoner cat. He just loves to sit around, eat, he loves being in bags, I don't know what to say,
he just loves being in bags.

- This is my cat Riceball, he's very friendly, he's
more like a dog cat, He like, he does not afraid of people, he doesn't scratch, or anything. No, he has never been outside before, but when I moved out to LA, I did brought him with me, but he's never been actually,
physically on the ground. - My name in Rocco, and I love cats. More than I could love anything else.

My first adult job, being a cat care attendant at the SPCA, and moved into cat behavior specialist at the San Francisco SPCA. This guy is like, the most
special cat I've ever met. I just was realizing
that I wouldn't sell him for a million dollars. I think the benefits of
walking a cat on a leash is that they do get that outdoor time, but then there's no chance that they're going to get mauled
or carried away by a coyote.

I would say the first
piece of advice I have, not all cats are gonna take to a harness. - [Devin] Can you stay still for a second? Stay still. No. - So right now I'm trying
to put the leash on him.

- I'm not hurting my cat, I promise, I'm just kind of making him do something that is good for him ultimately. - [Iris] Riceball thank you! But you have to come back! - If your cat freezes in the harness, then you're going to have to work on its relationship to
being inside that harness before you can take it outside. - So, I had to call in backup, this is my roommate Abby, we are going to attempt
to put this on him. Yay, the harness is on! - Oh, but you look so cute in this! - He doesn't look happy, does he? - [Abby] No, no, that's not
a happy cat right there.

- [Devin] He does not look happy. - Okay, I heard you. - The best advice with any type of behavioral issue with a cat is try to figure out
how to work with them. Because if it knows you want something, it's not going to do it.

So if you want them to do something, then you're gonna have to
figure out how to trick them into thinking that they want it. - What is this? Look at it! Oh! Oh! He's walking with me! - Here we go! Let's try this. No, let's go this way. No, let's go this way.

(Mars meows) Mars! - [Iris] Let's go, let's go. Let's go, treat! - [Devin] Mars, c'mon. C'mon baby. We're just gonna go, no, we're just gonna go on a little walk.

- (Laughing) Look at her! - He's stressing me out, I'm really, this is really stressful. This is very, very stressful. Uh, he's not liking this, at all. - Oh he's, he's doing
better than I thought.

I thought he was just gonna,
like, sitting in one corner, and doesn't move at all. But he's making some kind of process. C'mon, let's go! - Mars is now wedged in
between my neighbors hedge and my front porch. - We probably walked, like, three steps out of apartment? The apartment door is right there.

- I just feel like maybe
this wasn't for him. Right? You wanna go back inside? - And cats, we're built to serve them. That's why the ancient
Egyptian's worshipped them, you know what I mean? I live to serve my cat, and that's honest. So, if he wants to go on a walk, I'm gonna provide that service..

I Spent 24 Hours With 1,000 Cats

- Hey, I'm Tan
("Habanera" by Georges Bizet) and I'm obsessed with
other people's obsessions. - My name is Lynea and
I am obsessed with cats. I only had four cats
when I moved out here. Currently we have about 700
adults and about 300 kittens.

I say I'm eccentric slash masochistic. Okay, that's your's It sounds better than crazy. (Guns blasting) (Lynea yells) - Next we're gonna go
look for coyote skulls. - Alright.

- [Lynea] I don't know people
dismember human beings. That'd be so gross. (Phone rings) - Cat House on the Kings,
Cat House on the Kings. (Cats meowing) - [Tania] I like cats, a shitload.

I love cats. You know my first word was cat. All the VHS family videos are of me flicking through books,
giggling at pictures of them. It's embarrassing.

- [Man] Tell us your story, Tania. - [Tania Voiceover]
But then there's Lynea, cat lord at Cat House on the Kings. She has over 1,000 feral felines. Ya, 1,000.

And is said to have
given and literally given her five bedroom house over to her cats and now lives in a trailer instead, so naturally I wanted to meet her; spend 24 hours in her shoes
doing anything and everything that she would naturally. - [Woman] Alright, you read to do this? - I'm ready. Let's go. Just gonna call Beth who
is Lynea's assistant.

- [Beth] Hello, this is Beth. - [Tania] Hi Beth, it's
Tan from Buzzfeed here. We've just pulled into your car park. - [Beth] Okay, I will
come get you right now.

- I've already seen five cats. Only 995 to go. I'm about to meet the ultimate cat lady. Do you know how that feels? - [Woman] I don't know.

How do you feel? - [Tania] It's a privilege, it's an honor, and it's a little bit terrifying. - We do lock up at four o'clock, so these gates lock, but she'll
probably give you the code so in case you want to go out
and get dinner or anything. - [Tania] Hey guys. - [Beth] Chip, Toto.

- Hello. Nice to officially meet you. - Yes, and you're from Australia? - I am. I'm from Australia.
(Cat meows) - Daphne! Sophia, Sophia.

- [Tania Voiceover] When I first got there I was instantly gobsmacked
at how big her property was. She had peacocks for fuck's sake. I could feel a little bit of
apprehension from her at first, and you know, I get it. It's easy to take the piece.

Cat ladies are the butt
of so many generic gags, but it wasn't long she started telling me a little more about what it
takes to be obsessed with cats. And then she took me on a
little tour of the grounds. - I moved out of my 4,200 square foot, five bedroom home, and gave it to the cats and I live in a trailer. I was normal for many years of my life, and then I got a divorce, and then I went through some traumatic situations.

I kept saying to myself you're supposed to be doing something with your life. I never really knew what it was. Then after I started rescue, I realized that you bought a 4,200 square foot, five bedroom home on six acres and you're single with no kids. Then this started and I go,
somebody planned this for me.

So I worked for three years at a vet. - [Tania] And how did you know when it was time to give
your house over to the cats? - They would jump from the top onto my solar plexus in
the middle of the night and then they would run
across my face fighting, and I have scars, and then
they threw up in my ear. - [Tania] Excellent. - [Tania Voiceover] I
was a little bit confused about some parts of the conversation.

- Oh, there's that,
the black and white one is the one that was exiled. His name is Sultan but
I changed it to Isis. His name is Afghanistan. You wonder about Middle Eastern men.

- [Tania Voiceover] She
knows I'm Arab, right? But otherwise, most of it was cool. So she's invested her retirement in building separate
ICUs in various sections throughout her property for the sick, old, young, and in betweens. - [Lynea] And in the
winter they have heaters and in the summer they have misters and ceiling fans and a water cooler. - [Tania Voiceover] Basically,
they live better than me, ya.

- We're getting into feral territory. These are the anti-socials, the wilds, the don't touch me and I
won't touch you kittens. - [Tania] This is where I belong. It's kind of like the Blair Witch.

Have you always loved cats? - Yes, and my mom
wouldn't let me have one. Look at me now. Fixed her, didn't I? But I think I went a little overboard. - [Tania Voiceover] So
what are the numbers for all you people wondering how the fuck she feeds 1,000 plus cats? So, every week Lynea purchases
1,300 pounds of dry food, 1,000 cans of wet food,
600 pounds of litter, 60 rolls of paper towels, nine
gallons of laundry detergent, six gallons of dish washing
detergent, and 600 trash bags.

- [Man] Fuck. - [Lynea] Look at. - Um. - [Lynea] So, what'd you think? - So we're halfway through the 24 hours.

It feels like we're in
a post-apocalyptic world that has been overrun by cats. All humans have been defeated and we now have a cat lord. This is him. (Cat hisses)
(cat yowling) He's the boss.

(Cat meows) Is it a pillow, it is a cat? It's both. - [Tania Voiceover] I realized that night that putting a couple of hundred cats in one house is like if the Walking Dead and Kardashians made a love-child. We grabbed some dinner
and then fed them supper. - [Tania] My god, (laughs)
I'm queen of the cats.

- [Tania Voiceover] It was a time. - Is this real-life? Yes, I'm your mother now.
(Cats meowing) Totally. Wee. - [Tania Voiceover] I don't
know, something happened.

Went to bed, suddenly it
was four fuckin' a.M.. (Lively percussion music) - There were so many cats at the door. So many paws coming through underneath. (Cats meowing)
Meowing.

- Ready?
I'm ready. Yes. Just meowing and meowing. Forever meowing.

(Laughs) (lively percussion music) - So, in the morning we'll
have you mix the food, and while you're there you're gonna have 50 hungry cats just meowing
and screaming and you know, and then after that
we'll take the platters all the way down to the
river and feed the kennels. And then we can probably
do the medications and the feeding at the kittens. They even do poop walk,
which is walk the property with a little thing like at Disneyland. You know the rake and the ...? (Cat meows)
- Done.

I made about 20 trays of food and gained some upper body strength. - [Lynea] You haven't taken
any culinary courses, have you? - [Tania] No. This is every morning you do this? - Seven days a week. We're gonna wash the
dishes from the breakfast.

- [Tania Voiceover] Then
I cleaned a lot of shit. - [Lynea] It's kind of
like panning for gold. Look at that gold, my god. - [Tania] Come here.

Don't go that way. - [Lynea] That's one of the
ways you prevent disease. - [Tania Voiceover] Fucked up a bit. - I put the kitty litter
in the wrong bucket.

(Lively theatrical music) What? Oh, it's um. - [Man] I know. - There's some poo there. Lovely.

Well, I just had to rinse
the feces off my mop. So what now? - [Lynea] We poop walk. - [Tania] But we did the poop walk. - [Lynea] Oh no, no,
that's the litter boxes.

(Lighthearted music) - I thought that I had
shoveled shit already, but apparently not. Poopin' scoopin' Judy. - [Lynea] You're gonna
have to be a little quicker or you're gonna be here for a week. That's number one out of a thousand.

- [Man] That's number one
out of a thousand. (Laughs) - I feel excited when I find a poo. I'm like yes, another poo! - Next we're gonna do the boxes. - [Man] Big box? - Ya, the big box out front.

These are our outdoor litter boxes. There are probably 20 or more. - [Tania Voiceover] And then
we had a couple of dramas. - We just had somebody
come in with a surgery.

Someone just brought in
a cat from the public that they want to get spayed or neutered and we have to fill out the forms, do the intake, and then
we take them to the vet, and then bring 'em back. - [Tania Voiceover] Then came the kittens. Hundreds. - Alright, so where to for now? - We're going to feed kittens.

- Alright mate, say goodbye to your balls. - [Lynea] I tell 'em it'll
make a good man out of him.  Hallelujah  Hallelujah  Hallelujah, hallelujah  Hall-e-lujah  Hallelujah  Hallelujah - This time there's probably 200. In June there were probably 300 in here.

- Kittens?
- Kittens. And then the other building
next door would also have been full with another
hundred that were sick. - [Tania Voiceover] Check
their bums, ear, eyes. Most of them were doing pretty well, and you know, some were
having a rough time.

- Are you okay? Nobody wants to give him a chance. - [Tania] It is heartbreaking though. - So basically, when the kitties come in we have to put them under
quarantine immediately, at least for two to three weeks just to make sure everything's in order. And when we do that we
just give 'em probiotics.

So this is stuff you can
just buy from Amazon, and if encounter any issues with them then we have to reach out to our vet. Check out their little eyes and make sure everything's okay with them. (Phone ringing) So we're just gonna give them .5 Each. - I've got this, Karla.
- Okay, thank you.

- [Tania] So that's four done. How many more to go? - [Karla] We have the whole room to do, plus we work our way that way. (Tania sighs)
Ya. So it usually takes us all morning.

- This little, this little runt here, when you hold him your heart breaks and you just want the best for him. I can understand how the
obsession would grow from there and how you would just want them all to have an equal chance at life. - Okay.
- Are you obsessed? - I think you kinda have to be, huh? - [Lynea] Did you want coffee? - Ya, I'd love some. (Laughs) - Okay.

Did you enjoy the litter box duty? - [Tania] So much. - You did a great job. - [Tania Voiceover] And then
she suggested we get some air. - [Lynea] We could take a walk.

I take a gun. Is that alright with you? - [Tania Voiceover] Guns
aren't big in Australia. - And we're taking your gun with us? - When you're out there, there's
nobody but you, hopefully. And that if a coyote comes,
I've had 'em challenge us and I've had 'em try to
take one of the dogs, that anything that makes
noise is a good thing.

Two rottweilers and a 38-Special
and you know you're safe. Okay? That's yours. I don't normally shoot
unless a coyote attacks, but since you wanted to see what it's like to live out in the country, we'll go. Shoot at that sign.

(Lively Caribbean music) You can pull the hammer back. - [Tania Voiceover] As if
I know how to shoot a gun. - What's the hammer? It's loaded? (Gun fires) (lively Caribbean music) - [Lynea] Aim. - Again?
(Gun fires) I don't even know where that one went.

- [Lynea] That one went wild. (Laughs) - This is such a lovely bonding exercise. - [Lynea] Ya, then we'll
let you use the shotgun. So grab a couple of those.

- What? (Lively Caribbean music) (gun fires) (gun fires) - Next we're gonna go
look for coyote skulls. - Alright. What a morning. I haven't even had breakfast yet.

- [Tania Voiceover]
Lynea was talking about how she found a dead
coyote a month or so ago in a field and wanted the skull. So after our bonding sesh
we headed over and found it. I mean, this has absolutely
nothing to do with cats, and you know, I'm a vegetarian, but it was still her time
so why not include it in this video, ya? - [Lynea] I don't know how
people dismember human beings. Here, your turn.

- [Tania] Wow. (Sighs) - Okay, you're the bag lady. And you're taking this home, right? No? - So we've been up for six hours, shoveled a lot of shit,
fed hundreds of mouths, cut off a coyote's head, shot some guns. Probably should just have a glass of water and a nap right about now.
(Goose honks) - [Tania Voiceover] And then suddenly we were having our last words.

- My obsession with cats
I've kept in control. I have never taken in more
cats than I can afford. So I feel that because
I can take care of them and I spay and neuter 'em all, and that the facility is
good and the cats are healthy that it's not a bad obsession. I gave up my retirement, my
home, and my life for cats.

- [Tania] Would you have it any other way? - I have no regrets. The people that don't
agree with what I do, they think I've gone overboard. They think that there's
something wrong with me. - [Tania] What do you think? - I think maybe they're right.

I am obsessed about it, but
my obsession is to the point where this is the most
important part of my life, and I don't mind. - [Tania Voiceover] I
mean, at the end of the day this obsession had done a lot of good. - We have rescued 30,000 plus cats and 8,000 plus dogs. The county hasn't taken
in cats, even to kill 'em for over five years.

There's 200,000 on the streets. So, we get them out. We're like the Costco, the wholesaler. They were newborns when they came and they were all covered in metal.

I want to fix it and I can't fix it, and I get angry and I
just, puts me into the well, I've gotta save more. - [Tania Voiceover] And I kinda get it. It's so easy to look at someone and call their lifestyle unhealthy, but she's got something
that gives her meaning. - To me it is just a way of life.

I get up in the morning and I'm happy. That's all that counts. - [Tania] I guess the majority of the time we see obsessions as negative things, things that can overwhelm
us and restrict us, but Lynea sees her obsession as something that's really positive
and it gives her life a lot of meaning which is really cool. For her, it's just life, it's normal as it is for us to be obsessed with the things that we love in life..

HOW TO UNDERSTAND YOUR CAT BETTER

Five ways to make friends with your cat. Everyone knows that cats are the most illogical and unpredictable pets. Can you work out what's going through that furry little head? However, cats have their language. And if you learn it, there's a chance you'll understand them much better.

We've put together all the possible cat behaviors to help you find a common language with your pet. Well, if it allows you to. Also, we've prepared three essential tips that will help you communicate with cats better. One - the tail is raised.

A raised upward and curled tail means your cat is happy with its life. Congrats. You are already best friends with your cat. How did you manage to do it, by the way? Do you know any secrets on how to please cats? Let us know in the comments below, so that others can learn your tricks, too.

Occasional twitches. Occasional twitches means your cat is excited or worried about something. Also, vets say when a cat nervously jerks its tail or keeps knocking its tail on the floor, it means your pet is in pain or stressed. Maybe it's time to take your cat to a vet.

The fur juts out. When the fur on the cat's tail juts out in different directions, it means your fluffy friend is very excited, or feels threatened. The aim of fluffing the tail is to create an illusion that the cat is larger than it is. That way, your cat is showing its enemy that it's really big and scary to deal with.

The tail vibrates. The cat vibrates its tail slightly when it's agitated and glad to see you. It also means that your cat is excited waiting for something, for instance, for a treat. The tail sticks straight up.

If your cat sticks its tail straight up and bends its back to form an "N", you need to pay special attention to this. It's a sign of extreme aggression, and it occurs during self-defense. If nothing dangerous happens around, try to calm your cat down by petting it. The tail is inclined at a low angle.

The straight, but inclined tail is a sign of slight aggression or fright. Also, when a cat doesn't know if there is a friend or enemy around, it keeps the tail at an angle of 45 degrees. The tail is lowered. The cat lowers its tail toward the ground when it's frightened or feels guilty.

Most often, cats tuck their tails between their paws when they're afraid of something or someone. Also, it's a sign of insecurity and submission. Have a look around the house. Your cat has probably done something naughty, and lowers its tail knowing that you're going to punish it.

The tail is wagging from side to side. If your cat wags his tail sharply from side to side, it means it is angry. It's best to leave your pet alone. However, it might also mean that you cat wants to play with you.

Why do cats wag their tails while sitting next to their owners and feeling completely satisfied? It's simple. The cat checks if there's an enemy behind its back. Two - the eyes. Dilated pupils.

Dilated pupils indicates strong feelings: playfulness, agitation, fright, or aggression. In case a house is new for your cat, it dilates its pupils as a sign that it's not used to the new place yet. Your cat needs time to examine the situation and people around. A direct look.

When a cat looks directly in your eyes, it means it trusts you. Your pet is comfortable being around you. A slow blink. A slow blink indicates that your cat is calm.

Your pet feels comfortable and safe. Sometimes, it might even purr while blinking slowly. Three - interactions with people. Rubbing against you.

If a cat rubs against you, it is marking you as its territory and property. Poking. Poking with a wet nose is an expression of attachment. It indicates your cat feels comfortable and safe being around you.

Rubbing his head or tail. When the cat rubs its head, side, or tail against you, it is just saying hello. Butting slightly. Butting you slightly with its head is a sign of friendliness.

Your pet is in love with you. Shifting from one paw to another. Cats often move from one paw to another when they are happy or want to play. Licking you.

If a cat licks you, it's a definite sign that it trusts you and considers you part of its family. Eating your hair. When your cat bites your hair, it's simply trying to clean you. It is another strong sign of love and trust.

Biting you. When a cat bites you, take it as a sign that your pet wants to be left alone. Yep. Cats also need to have some private time, as well as us humans.

On the other hand, light biting means your cat is just playing with you. Four - other gestures. If a cat raises its nose up and throws its head, it's saying, "I see you." Cats often make this gesture to people walking past the window. Have you ever noticed it? A cat might press its ears against its head if it feels scared, worried, or wants to play.

They also do this when they are sniffing something that's interested them. When a cat sticks its tongue out slightly and licks itself, it's worried or anxious. Five - cat language. Cats generally greet people or announce their presence with a short sound.

Lengthy meowing indicates that your cat is very glad to see you. This occurs if you're away from home for a long time. A medium-length meow might be a request for water or food. A long sound (a mix of purring and meowing) is a more insistent request or demand.

A low meow is a complaint or indication of dissatisfaction. Also, it might mean your cat is ready to fight. A loud sound often indicates an urgent demand (for instance, your cat needs more food). A purring or vibrating sound indicates a desire for closer contact or attention.

Cats purr for various reasons, but most often they do it when they are happy. Now, here are the three important tips to communicate with your cat better. How to make your cat trust you. Lowering your cat to the ground, make sure its paws have reached the floor.

Your cat will trust you and know that it won't tumble if you let it go. How to stroke your cat. If you sit on the floor with your legs crossed and look at your cat, it will interpret this as a friendly gesture and come up to you and let you stroke it. Also, to ask for permission to stroke your cat, stretch your hand out in its direction.

Your middle finger should be a little lower than the others. The cat will start rubbing its nose or face against your hand. How to make your cat appear. A cat may go and hide and only appear when it's alone or hears a calm voice.

Now you know how to find a common language with any cat. By the way, are you a cat person or a dog person? Hit the like button for cats and leave a short comment if you are in love with dogs. Don't forget to click subscribe to stay on the bright side of life..

HOW TO UNDERSTAND YOUR CAT BETTER

How I Trained My Cats

Give me your paw The other one. One more time. The other one. Good boy.

Hey guys. So I get a lot of questions about
how I train my cats for my videos. Actually, the secret is I only taught them a paw trick and the rest are just something I made them get used to so I didnt really train them. But I will explain those too
if you want to try some of these with your cats.

So, heres how I taught them a paw trick. Its nothing complicated. I just did this every time I fed them. First, grab their paw
and let them get used to me doing that.

Then, once they get used to it,
they will lift up their paw at some point. Grab it and feed them immediately. If you have more than two cats, having one watch the other one do it
seems to help him understand whats going on. Poki, can I have this paw? Thank you.

Can I have the other one, too? Thank you. Poki! Give me your paw. Thank you. Can I have the other one? Yes! Give paw Thank you Can I have the other one? Yes Good boy.

Cats are really curious, and especially living inside the house they don't have much entertainment aside from
what you give them. So anything new in the house is exciting and
interesting for them and they just want to smell it and engage with it. So if you engage your kitties with your cooking
by letting them smell the ingredients then it's entertaining for them to watch what's going on. Once they memorize the ingredient, they either lose interest...

...Or go crazy for it. Since my cats like watching outside, we got them a cage so they could go outside safely. Over time they got comfortable and started
trying to explore outside their cage, so then I started taking them out for walks. They were kind of nervous first,
but they eventually got used to it.

There's a doggie. There's a doggie coming! You okay? You're not scared? Bye bye "Excuse me."
Not a problem. I guess you're not really scared of doggies, huh? Haku, what are you doing? Aghhh, come on! Who do you think is gonna clean your body?! *Sigh* What's up? Is that cat nip or something? *Cat sneezes* Of course you have to sneeze! *More cat sneezes* You okay buddy? When Kohaku got used to that,
I put him in the basket of my bike. He's pretty laid back for a cat so he didn't mind and now he enjoys being in the basket
and going for bike rides with me.

Of course all cats have different personalities and some may not ever be comfortable going outside. Our cat Poki gets really stressed out by car rides
so I don't take him with me. Some cats also startle easily and may run off
if they suddenly get scared. It's important to pay attention to how your cat is acting and not push him to do something he doesn't want to do.

Even if your cat doesn't like going for walks
or watching you cook, he probably has personality quirks
that make him unique in other ways. Nagi likes to play fetch with plastic wrappers. *Whistle*
Bring it back! Poki... Is just Poki.

Try playing with your cat in different ways and you might find something unique
that he or she enjoys! Thank you for watching! Poki, give me your paw. Okay, okay. You really want food! All right..

Guns Explained With Cats

If you're still not sure what to do about guns, let me explain it to you, using this AWFUL cat. (HISS) Now before we start, we can all agree, that banning cats... Won't get rid of all cats. And the majority of people that do own cats are good people.

Not every cat... Is an awful cat. And I happen to love a cute, cuddly cat. Awww, look at you! SO CUTE! Such a cute little kitty.

(Glass shatters) (Hiss) AHHHH!!! SUCH AN AWFUL CAT! That, was an awful cat. -_- And that is what we're here to talk about. Let's say you're at the movies, or church, or school, when out of nowhere, a cat pops up and claws you in the face. *CAT SCREECH* Suddenly, you might want to do something about this awful cat.

Now I live on a street that had one awful stray cat, and when no one did anything about it one cat turned into DOZENS. And they were all clawin' people in the face, and it's all because my neighbor, the crazy cat lady Mrs.NRA, was leaving out giant piles of treats... For cats. So you explain to your neighbor that maybe it would be okay to have a couple rules for these cats.

Now you would hope that a good neighbor would understand, but she freaks out and yells at you that you're trying to ban all cats. And then you're just like, "Hey!" I just don't want to get clawed in the face. I'm not banning anything." And they tell you maybe if you had your own cat you'd feel better about it. And you say I do have a cat.

It's that cute cuddly one in my window. *Meow* That's not the problem the problem is these- OOWW, AAHH GODDAMNIT!!! So as you can see, we have a cat problem. And all anyone wants is to put some rules in place to stop the excessive amount of awful cats on the street. But instead I'm looking out my window and see an even bigger, scarier, lions, tigers, cheetahs, and AR-15s! That's not the same as a regular cat! But my crazy cat lady neighbor wants you to think it's okay for everybody to own a cheetah! (WTH) What? NO! Would you stop it Mrs.

NRA? Really! And sure there are people out there with the proper knowledge and training to understand the responsibilities of owning a cheetah. But when the cheetahs keep ending up in schools, clawing kids in the face, I-I don't think the answer is to put more cheetahs in the school. And I don't think the best way to buy a cheetah is to walk into Petco and go, "Hey. I want a cheetah." "Oh, okay.

Here you go." And I think we all can agree that it's impossible to get rid of all cats. Which is good, because there's tons of cute cuddly ones. *Purrs* But let's make some rules that limit and prevent how many awful cats wind up on our street. Less awful cats means less people clawed in the face.

Sure they still might get attacked by a dog, or abducted by aliens (lol), but let's handle this one problem at a time. And while this won't solve all cat problems, there's a good chance it will help with a lot. Like they had a similar cat problem over on Australia street, and after they put rules in place, good people still own good cats. But no one has gotten clawed in the face in over 20 years! And all the teenagers on my street that are fed up with that cat lady, I'm really proud of you for being so brave.

So I hope that explains to you the problem we're having with guns. Now I have a feeling that the comments on this video are gonna get a little out of hand. If you see that could you help me out? Direct the conversation back to, "What laws can we put in place to get less guns in the hands of wrong people?" It's important and something we should talk about constructively. How can we stop Mrs.

NRA? She's a good lady. She's just a little too into her cats. Maybe we could get her to be interested in a new American pastime, like give everyone on the street free apple pie. *Chomp* *NOM NOM* There's a rally on March 24th in Washington DC, and I would love it if you could attend.

I'll have all that information down below. That's it. We'll be back to the regularly scheduled videos starting soon. Congrats to Hello Person for finding this week screenshot.

If you find it, and tweet it to me first, we'll feature it at the end of the video. I am ItsAlexClark. I am having a lot of fun on Instagram lately so come hang out over there, otherwise I will see ya somewhere, ok? BYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE......

10 Rare Wild Cats You've Never Heard Of Creature Countdown - FreeSchool

You're watching FreeSchool! This is a countdown of ten fascinating wild
cat species. You probably already know all about lions, tigers, and even leopards, but
although these ten felines are less famous than their cousins, that doesn't make them
any less interesting. Number 10: The Caracal. The caracal, sometimes called the 'desert
lynx,' is native to Africa, parts of Asia, and India.

Its name comes from a Turkish word
meaning 'black ear,' a reference to the distinctive black tufts on the back of its ears. The largest of the small cats in Africa, caracals
can grow up to 40 lbs or 18 kg in weight and reach about 3 feet or a meter in length. Caracals
were once used by humans in India and Iran to hunt birds, but in the wild they will hunt
birds, rodents, lizards, and snakes. They will also kill prey larger than they are,
like small antelope.

Number 9: The Andean Mountain Cat. The Andean Mountain Cat is a small wild cat
native to the Andes mountains in South America. Although they do not weigh much more than
a large domestic cat at about 12 lbs or 5.5Kg, they can grow much longer, with a length of
up to 33 inches or 85 cm, not including their tail. An Andean Mountain Cat's tail is long
and bushy, with dark rings around it.

Relatively little is known about this rare
and elusive feline, but it has been classified as an endangered species due to loss of habitat
and prey animals. Number 8: The Flat-Headed Cat. Native to a small area of southeast Asia,
the flat-headed cat is most recognizable by the unusual shape of its long, flattened head
and rounded ears. It's about the size of a housecat, with a head and body length of up
to 20 inches or 50 cm and a weight of about 5 lbs or 2.5 Kg.

Unlike domestic cats, however,
flat-headed cats have pronounced webbing between the toes of their paws that help them travel
through wet and muddy environments. Flat-headed cats live exclusively in lowland
tropical rainforests, where they eat mostly fish and frogs. Due to the destruction of
the forests where they live, flat-headed cats are endangered. Number 7: The Margay.

The margay is a small cat native to central
and South America. They are larger than domestic cats with a head and body length of 31 inches
or 79 cm and a weight of more than 8 lbs or 4 kg. Margays are skillful climbers and may
spend their entire lives in the trees, catching and eating the birds and monkeys that live
there. Although Margays are not yet endangered, their
populations are declining as the forests in which they live are cut down or converted
to farmland.

Number 6: The Sand Cat. Native to north Africa and southwest Asia,
the sand cat is the only cat in the world that is found mostly in true deserts. Sand
cats are well adapted to the harsh conditions: they can be found in areas very far from water,
and are able to survive on the moisture that is found in their prey. They also have special
long hairs on their feet that help protect them when they walk on the hot sand.

When
temperatures are hot, sand cats will retreat to burrows in the ground to keep cool. They are fairly small, with a head and body
length of up to 20 inches or 52 cm and weights of about 7 lbs or 3 kg, and they eat mostly
rodents, birds, reptiles, hares, and insects. Number 5: The Serval. The serval is a medium sized cat, reaching
a head and body length of up to 36 inches or 92 cm and a weight of up to 40 lbs or 18
kg.

It can be found in much of sub-Saharan Africa, mostly on the savanna and at the fringes
of forests. They are able to climb and swim, but they usually don't. Servals' favorite prey are rodents, which
they can hear moving about with their large ears, but they will also eat birds, reptiles,
insects, fish and frogs. Number 4: The Jaguarundi.

Native to central and South America, the jaguarundi
is a small to medium wild cat, with head and body lengths of up to 30 inches or 77 cm and
weights of up to 20 lbs or 9 kg. Jaguarundis have an almost weasel-like appearance, with
long, slender bodies, short legs, and a small, flat head with rounded ears. They are excellent climbers and jumpers, sometimes
jumping as high as two meters off the ground to attack birds in the air, but jaguarundis
will eat almost any small animal they can catch. Number 3: The Kodkod.

The kodkod is the smallest cat in the Americas,
with a maximum weight of 5 and a half lbs or 2.5 Kg and a typical length of about 20
inches or 51 cm, not including the tail. Found only in Chile and small areas of Argentina,
kodkods prefer to live in temperate rainforests where they eat birds, lizards, and rodents. Due to logging that is shrinking their habitats,
kodkod populations are declining. Number 2: The Fishing Cat.

A medium sized cat native to south and southeast
Asia, the fishing cat is about twice the size of a housecat. Their head to body length can
reach up to 31 inches or 78 cm, although their tail is somewhat short, and they can weigh
up to 35 lbs or 16 kg. Fishing cats are at home in the water, and can swim a long way,
even underwater. They eat mainly fish, but will also eat snakes, amphibians, birds, insects,
and rodents.

Fishing cats are endangered due to the continued
destruction of the wetlands where they live. Number 1: The Black-Footed Cat. Native to the southern tip of Africa, the
black-footed cat is the smallest cat in Africa and one of the smallest cats in the world.
At their maximum size, they weigh less than 5 and a half lbs or 2 and a half kg, and reach
a head and body length of only 17 inches or 43 cm. Although it is called the 'black-footed'
cat, only the pads and the underparts of their feet are black.

Black footed cats live in open savanna and
semidesert. Unlike many other cats, they are poor climbers, choosing instead to dig burrows
to shelter from the heat. Due to their small size, they eat mostly rodents and small birds,
but will occasionally kill birds and mammals larger than themselves. I hope you enjoyed learning about these amazing
wild cats, and stay tuned for more creature countdowns from FreeSchool!.
